Community Action Duluth opened a new site this year just for people with dependents. This site was in West Duluth at Memorial Park – 5315 Grand Ave and catered to busy families by offering appointments. This greatly reduced the waiting times for our customers. We also offered free child care for people who were getting their taxes done. Also at this site were credit counselors from LSS Financial Services who could pull free credit reports for our customers and met with them individually to review their reports and discuss ways they could improve their credit. |

This site also accepted some walk-in customers with dependents. The new site greatly increased the total number of customers served by Community Action Duluth. The average refund at this site was over $2,700.
Also new this year was the Express Refund Loan and Savings Program with our partners Northern Communities Credit Union and AccountAbility MN.
This program allowed our customers to get the federal part of their refund usually within 24 hours of getting their taxes done, at no cost. There were neither fees nor interest charges for this service. Everyone receiving an Express Loan also received a free savings account at Northern Communities Credit Union which is conveniently located across from the Memorial tax site or at the Government Services Building downtown. We also offered savings accounts to anyone at the tax site even customers who did not choose to get an Express Loan. This service has enabled our customers who did not have any savings account to take a step toward financial stability. |
