The opportunity to get ahead and support your family belongs to everyone—including you. But it is something most people can’t attain without furthering their education, finding the right job or attaining financial assets like a savings account, a home or a vehicle. These are the things that are open to you here through coaching and classes.

GED Test Prep and Tutoring

By earning your GED you are creating opportunities for yourself. Getting a GED certificate can open the door to a better job, promotions or even a higher education. If not having your high school diploma is holding you back, we offer:

Free weekly GED tutoring and support on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 5–7 p.m. You’ll find:

  • Certified Adult Basic Education Instructors

  • One-on-one tutoring

  • Assistance with testing fees

  • Free childcare provided

Eligibility

This program is open to anyone who wants to get their GED certificate and advance their education or career. How to connect:

  • Just show up for a class.

  • If you’d like to let us know you are coming, you can call us at (218)206-6975.

GED and Adult Basic Ed classes are offered in Partnership with ISD 709.

Career Pathways

Whether you’re starting in your career or making a switch, we offer classes to help you prepare for an in-demand entry-level job. We regularly run a Certified Nursing Assistant class, which ends with a job fair and a test to get state-certified as a CNA! Depending on funding, we sometimes offer other classes – if you are interested, give us a call to find out what opportunities are available.

We partner with LISC, ISD 709, Lake Superior College, the City of Duluth Careerforce Center, SOAR Career Solutions, employers and others so that people who complete these classes are ready to be interviewed and hired by local employers.

If this sounds good to you, we are here with programs, classes and coaches to help you get started and see you through the entire process.

Eligibility

This program is about surrounding you with the support you need to stay motivated and reach your work goals. It is open to anyone who wants to increase their skills in order to improve their employment opportunities. That being said, specific classes may have specific eligibility requirements – so call for more information!

How to connect

If you would like more information, please call us at (218)206-6975 or email us at porsha@communityactionduluth.org.

Appreciate how clearly you outlined the available classes and their benefits for the community. It feels very inclusive and encouraging for people at different stages of learning. I remember reading a somewhat related discussion on https://maydayhoustonlaw.com/ that also emphasized accessibility in programs like these. Your post does a great job of simplifying the process while motivating readers to take that first step toward personal growth.

While reading, I recalled a similar discussion on https://searenovation.com/ that offered a slightly different viewpoint. It is always helpful to see how topics are approached from multiple angles. Great job on delivering such useful content.
