Food Access Matching Fundraiser

In 2023 and 2024, the need for low-cost and free food resources increased as COVID-era aid programs came to an end and food costs climbed. Food shelf visits are up 143% over pre-Covid, and we know neighbors are struggling to find the food they need.

In response to this increasing need, in 2024 our Seeds of Success program:

  • Distributed over $100,000 in free fresh and healthy food to kids, seniors, EBT participants and others at risk of going hungry through our garden and Mobile and Farmers Market programs.

  • Provided EBT participants with $24,812 in additional funds to buy fresh fruits and veggies through our EBT Match program.

  • Launched a produce prescription program that provides $80 per month in produce purchasing power to families that either have or are at risk of developing a diet related health condition.

  • Supported 50+ small local businesses and kept over $200,000 local through the farmers markets and the Lincoln Park Market was honored as the state-wide host of National Farmers Market Week!

  • Made 2,110 home grocery deliveries to food insecure homebound seniors and families.

  • Provided low-cost groceries to over 500 individuals living in food deserts per month through the Mobile Market.

  • Served over 1,500 community meals.

  • Hosted over 350 youth volunteer hours at our urban farm and greenhouse, building gardening skills and confidence in Denfeld High School students and field trip visitors.

In support of food access, a generous donor has offered $20,000 in a matching grant- if we raise $20,000, they'll match it! If you'd like to help fight food insecurity in our community, you can double your impact by donating today!

If you've been to a farmers market, you've probably found Carl hiding in a sneaky spot. Along with his buddies Bruce the Broccoli and Edith the Eggplant, Carl the Carrot is always up to something & when you find him hiding at the market, you win a prize! Carl is up to his antics again and has lost all his orange! As we raise money, Carl gets his color back.

This is truly inspiring! It's clear that the Seeds of Success program is making a significant difference in combating food insecurity, especially with the 143% increase in food shelf visits. The initiatives, from the Mobile Market's reach in food deserts to the produce prescription program, are incredibly impactful. Doubling donations through the matching grant is a fantastic opportunity for the community to support this vital work. It reminds me how important it is for resources to be accessible, much like how tools can make complex tasks simpler, such as using Image to Prompt to easily generate creative ideas.

Distributing over $100,000 in free food, supporting local businesses, and reaching so many vulnerable individuals is remarkable. Every dollar truly makes a difference, and seeing Carl the Carrot regain his color as donations come in is a clever and engaging way to visualize the impact.
