Free Lead Blood testing and lead abatement services for community members.
Households with pregnant individuals or children aged 0-6 who test positive for elevated blood lead levels may qualify for free lead abatement services in their homes.
Our services include:
Cleaning all surfaces (walls, floors, windows sills, baseboards, ect) of all lead paint chips and lead dust
Wet scraping and removal of deteriorated or chipping lead based
Repainting of any area that lead paint was removed
Covering exposed lead contaminated soil with wood chips, sod, or pea gravel
Lead Abatement Process:
A pregnant community member or child aged 0-6 tests positive for elevated blood lead levels through a finger prick blood draw.
The community member goes to the doctor to receive a venous blood test to confirm the elevated results
If the venous tests confirms elevated blood lead levels the results are sent to MNDH
MNDH will send a Lead Risk Assessor to their home to determine exactly where in the home the lead contamination is coming from and the levels of lead contamination in various locations throughout the home
The Lead Risk Assessor will write up a report and work order and send it to Community Action Duluth's Healthy Homes Program Manager
The Healthy Homes manager will then contact the community member to schedule a time to complete the lead abatement work needed.
Once the work is done, MNDH will send the Lead Risk Assessor back to the home to inspect the work and retest the lead levels throughout the home.
